This artwork utilizes the central metaphor of an ′hourglass′ to symbolize the urgent countdown facing Earth′s biodiversity. The upper bulb of the hourglass depicts a vibrant, pristine natural world—where the Formosan black bear, Formosan sambar deer, crystal-clear rivers, and lush forests intertwine to form a rich ecosystem. However, as time slips away, this beauty flows downward, transforming industrial pollution, darkness, and destructive excavators. Surrounding the hourglass, the environment is besieged by factory emissions and marine debris like discarded tires, oil drums, and plastics, leaving even the leaping dolphin vulnerable. This piece serves as a stark warning: preserving biodiversity is a race against time. If we do not halt the destruction immediately, our precious ecosystems will vanish like sand through an hourglass—once gone, it can never be reversed.
